Hiring a professional company like Add Pizzazz Creative Event Design and Management makes sense on many levels. First, it is good for your personal sanity. There is a broad range of benefits to hiring us. We have the expertise, and the experience to produce a flawless event. We know the industry, what vendors are trustworthy and how to save money. Where to scrimp, and where to splurge. We focus on important event elements such as ensuring that you are keeping your audiences needs in mind, and that you are creating an event that will appeal to them. We create an event management timeline to ensure that the event unfolds properly. We face obstacles focused on creating collaborative solutions with the end result in mind. We consider all the legal and logistical aspects important to the final outcome of the event.
Ask yourself, are you a perfectionist? Many of my clients have told me that because they are perfectionists, they feel they should produce the event themselves. They feel that thier need to have complete control, and thier ability to meticulously cross thier t's crossed, and dot thier I's will ensure that thier event will be perfect. Unfortunately, I disagree with this assumption. An overpowering urge to be completely in control might turn out to be a greater detriment to the success of your event than you think. Many believe that if you are a perfectionist you are the perfect candidate for event management. Perfectionism can bring out the best in a person, but also the worst. Perfectionism "can drive people to accomplishments and provide motivation to persevere in the face of discouragement and obstables". I can definitely agree that I have these positive attributes. Where I differ in terms of my qualities and my event management expertise is that I personally realize exactly how detrimental extreme perfectionism can be to the final execution of an event. I have personally worked side by side with proud perfectionists. I am amazed at thier ability to stall a project to a grinding halt at the expense of the event. Perfectionists have a horrible habit of focusing on small inconsequential details that do not impact the overall purpose or end result of the event. They refuse to move forward without knowing the right way to execute the next stage of the event management process. They can have an overwhelming fear of failure, and possess an "all or nothing" characteristic. To be perfectly honest, there is no right way to produce an event, there is no perfect recipe. A true event manager focuses on the end result. They work tirelessly with thier team, thier clients, and suppliers, and weave together all the components needed to get to the end result.
If you decide to produce an event, please keep my point in mind. You need someone who has an eye for detail, who will focus on all the small issues and work to solve them for the sake of the success of the event. The event manager you hire has to show that they have the energy and the drive to get to the end result. Obstacles need to be dealt with, not ran away from. The event management business is multi faceted. It takes certain type of person to "make it" in this industry. The true quality of an event manager is someone who can set a final goal, and against all odds, get to the end result.
Add Pizzazz Creative Event Design and Management has produced countless events, and we continue to focus on the end result. An event we are proud of.
Warning: A Serious Event Management Taboo
Event managers, when you are working on an event consider one very important fact. Never use an event as a platform to express your views, beliefs or political affiliations to your audience.
Last week I attended a wine and cheese fundraising event at my daughter's school. This event was to celebrate our French Catholic School's birthday. The performer was french. That is fine, but she had a message of french language preservation that was completely and totally offensive. I am 100% for the french right to preserve their french language, and I believe that learning to speak french is an important opportunity that I should offer to my child at a young age. I am not, interested in french separatist dogma! I am offended that I was lured into a political hot topic with the hook of a wine and cheese fundraiser. I personally hold the organizers to blame for completely abusing their position to showcase their french language/separatist dogma.
What can I say, I now have a completely different view of the person that organized the event, and their affiliates. Straight across the board! I question their political motivations.I cannot, and will not align my company or myself with them because of the fact that they used an event to showcase their political beliefs, and by tricking me to attend, used me as leverage for their political agenda.
Companies will judge you personally for the events that you produce. Make certain that those participating in the event are not using the event as an opportunity to express their political views. It is a very serious mistake! Ask your performer to send you a transcript, or an outline of their performance. You will pay dearly for not doing so in the future. Always make certain you have a disclaimer in place, and that you make it known that you do not support the views expressed at an event. Keep you aligned with yourself!
